He graduated from Harvard University in 1977 and Harvard Medical School in 1981. He completed is Orthopaedic Residency training at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in 1986. He returned to Boston for a post-graduate fellowship program in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine at the New England Baptist Hospital, one of the leading Orthopaedic surgical hospitals in the world. He has been in practice at Bryn Mawr Hospital since 1987. Dr. Emper now specializes in Orthopaedic conditions of the knee and shoulder. Restricting his elective practice to these two areas, has allowed Dr. Emper to be a leader in the field of Orthopaedic surgery in knee and shoulder. His expertise in these two areas spans the entire spectrum from arthroscopic surgery to total joint replacement. Dr. Emper has been the team physician for Villanova University for more than twenty years. His patients have included adolescent and high school athletes, weekend warriors, and college athletes, some of whom are enjoying all-star careers in the NFL.
