Insurance and Billing FAQs

Do you accept my insurance?
If you have an emergency that requires immediate attention, please contact or proceed to the Bryn Mawr Hospital Emergency Room or to a local emergency room for evaluation. Orthopaedic Specialists accepts most insurance plans. To verify that Orthopaedic Specialists is a participating provider in our plan, call the Member Services telephone number on your insurance card.

Do I need a referral?
If your insurance plan is an HMO, you generally need a referral to see a specialist. You will need to contact your primary care physician to obtain this referral before your visit to our office. Your primary care physician is listed on your insurance card. You will need this referral to allow maximum insurance coverage for your visit.

Will my insurance allow me to have an X-ray at your facility?

  • HMO Insurance Plans
Most HMOs will allow X-rays at our facility if your referral is marked Fracture Care. Otherwise, your HMO plan will require that you have your X-rays done at one of their designated capitated site. Your primary care physician (listed on your insurance card) will have a list of capitated places for your X-ray, if you need it.
  • PPO Insurance Plans
PPOs generally allow for X-rays to be done at our office at the time of your visit. It is in your best interest to verify X-ray coverage with your insurance company before being seen.

What is your billing policy?
Orthopaedic Specialists will submit your claim to your insurance company. You will be responsible for any copayments, coinsurance, and/or deductible obligations due. If you have an HMO and do not have a referral (paper or electronic), you will be required to sign a referral waiver form and you will be responsible for the full charge for your care.
